The suspect is from St. George, Utah, near Zion National Park, located about 250 miles (400 km) southwest of the campus where Kirk was shot, according to BBC Verify.

Two law enforcement officials told CBS News that the suspect’s father recognised him in FBI images shared publicly.

Sources said the 22-year-old confessed to his father, who encouraged him to surrender. State records show the suspect’s parents are registered Republicans, while Robinson registered to vote in 2021 as “unaffiliated,”

The father then reached out to a family friend, who alerted the Washington County Sheriff’s Office. Shortly afterward, U.S. Marshals apprehended Robinson and notified the FBI, the sources added.
